What is the maximum number of inmates allowed in a county jail?

I know of a jail that only has 24 beds but 40 something inmates.

    For example los angeles ca has the county jailtwin towers main central jailthere are overcrouded as well.
    The most violent of the inmates there are 4man6 man cellsin twin towersthere are not enough prisons to house all of.
